The Breath of Nature - Food Installation
"The Breath of Nature" is my first food installation, celebrating the Earth’s vitality through natural colors, textures, and scents. Presented at Art Park II: Voice of Nature at Treehouse NDSM, this installation invites reflection on our deep connection to plant life and the environment. With a focus on sustainability, every element was repurposed in the kitchen to ensure zero waste.

The Breath of Nature: A Celebration of Life and Sustainability
My first food installation, "The Breath of Nature," is a tribute to the Earth’s essential vitality, designed to capture its natural beauty through colors, textures, scents, and forms. Presented during the opening of the Art Park II: Voice of Nature exhibition at Treehouse NDSM, this piece invites viewers to engage deeply with the relationship between plant life and our own existence, reminding us of the intricate and often overlooked connections between all living things. It’s an exploration of how nature sustains us and how, in return, we must learn to honor and care for it.
At the heart of the installation is a vibrant, living composition of fruits, vegetables, grains, and natural materials—elements that evoke the richness and fertility of the Earth. Surrounding this vibrant display is a delicate mist, symbolizing the invisible yet essential breath of nature that surrounds us, nourishing everything it touches. The mist invites the viewer to pause, breathe deeply, and become present to the forces of life that are often unseen but essential to our survival.
The wooden sculptures that accompany the piece—shaped like antlers or branches reaching skyward—serve as metaphors for the strength and resilience of nature. They symbolize the upward reach of plant life and the unbroken cycles of growth, decay, and renewal that sustain the natural world. These forms remind us of the sacred power inherent in natural elements and the profound connection between humanity and the wild.
One of the core principles of "The Breath of Nature" was sustainability. Every element of the installation—each fruit, vegetable, and grain—was used in the kitchen after the exhibition, ensuring that nothing went to waste. This zero-waste approach is not only a practical decision but a philosophical one. To truly honor nature, we must respect its resources fully, acknowledging that the beauty we experience must be mirrored in the way we treat the environment. By repurposing the materials from the installation, the project becomes a full-circle celebration of the Earth: from art to table, from display to nourishment.
"The Breath of Nature" is an invitation to reconnect with the Earth’s rhythms, to breathe in harmony with it, and to rediscover the beauty of nature in its most authentic, unfiltered form. It calls on us to pause and reflect on our relationship with the natural world—reminding us that every breath we take is part of a greater cycle that connects us all. By celebrating what is vital, authentic, and pure, we are reminded of our shared responsibility to protect and cherish the Earth, so that future generations may continue to breathe its life-giving air.
This installation is not just a visual experience but a holistic, sensory journey—a moment to reconnect with the Earth and with ourselves, recognizing that we are all part of this greater, interconnected whole.
