Dinner & Poetry: #Queerhouse2024
Words, memories, sharing of feelings: this is what we experienced together during the dinner. At that table, through food and poetry, we got to know each other deeply, exchanging not just words but emotions. Food acted as a facilitator, each course nurturing our human interactions. The dinner was part of the Queerhouse program and organized by Kelly and Larissa from Petry Trapper Keeper!

The Table as a Space of Connection
Words and memories interweave to create a tapestry of human experience, especially during intimate gatherings where food sparks connections. The dinner we shared was not merely about sustenance; it was an opportunity to explore each other's stories through food and poetry. Each course presented was a chapter, and together we constructed a narrative that was rich with emotion.
Food as a Facilitator of Emotions
The Poetry Dinner menu was not just about food. It was a concept, a carefully curated journey of flavors and emotions, designed and brought to life by me to transform the table into a space of connection and exchange.
We began with celery and lemon shots, my way of refreshing not only the palate but also the conversations, setting the tone for an open and lively evening. Then came beetroot and coconut lollipops, a playful creation designed to take us back to the sweet rebellion of adolescence, sparking laughter and nostalgia.
For the next course, I crafted tapas with spicy, sweet, savory, and black creams, where each flavor told a story and encouraged guests to share their own memories, using taste as a bridge to the past.
The centerpiece of the evening was a vibrant pink and green pasta, my tribute to the radiant energy of our hosts, blending visual beauty with bold flavors.
Then, to stir curiosity and storytelling, I prepared mini strudels, turning each bite into a guessing game. The ingredients became prompts for tales, bringing everyone into the circle of shared memories.
The grand finale was a whimsical tart with bubblegum cream and fruit, my way of ending the evening on a sweet and poetic note. Guests used sugar sprinkles to leave behind their handwritten messages, making dessert not just something to savor but also to share.
This menu wasn’t just served. It was imagined, created, and experienced as a reflection of the evening’s purpose: to connect through taste, poetry, and the stories we carry within.
The Enduring Impact of Shared Meals
The dinner was not merely a meal but rather a fellowship that encouraged the exchange of emotions. Through food and the spoken word, we transcended conventional social barriers, uncovering depths of understanding and empathy. The rich and varied courses brought forth stories that would linger long after the last plate was cleared.
As we parted ways, it became clear that the essence of that evening was the magic of communal dining—words, memories, and feelings, all intricately woven together at one table. Such nights remind us that food is more than physical nourishment; it is a vessel for sharing our lives with one another.
